Returning to HEMINGCO. this September is the Italian-designed, American footwear brand Saucony. Pronounced 'sock-a-knee', the brand was a stalwart in the store previously as a result of their ability to balance comfort and style with impeccable and obnoxious colourways that really take your shoe game to the next level. The brand returns following years of customer (and staff) requests and is sure to remain a long-term feature of the HEMINGCO. project.
Saucony was founded in 1898 in Pennsylvania, and takes its name from the Saucony Creek that ran along the area in which the brand first came to life. Initially founded as a brand for running shoes, the popularity of comfort-based footwear, alongside changing fashion trends, led to the expansion of Saucony product offering towards trainers and casual footwear, alongside a range of apparel.
Previous HEMINGCO. x Saucony ranges included products such as the Jazz Original, Shadow 5000 and Azura trainers. Those who have popped to our flagship Portsmouth store may have seen manager Darren, alongside many staff members, rocking a pair of Saucony's in-store. These trainers were based on a necessity for a casual trainer that elegantly blended comfort with an ability to be dressed both up and down. Some of these trainers would today be classified as a 'canvas' trainer, where the sole of the trainer is flat in its entirety. Today, the trend of fashion wearing is a tad different...
Introducing the ProGrid Trainer. Classed as a "2010 Icons" by the brand themselves, these trainers encapsulate the current trend in footwear of the running style trainer. These trainers are designed to not only look like a running trainer, but have the comfort and fit of one while being worn as a casual, day-to-day shoe. This style of trainer has been the trend in footwear for a considerable while now. Saucony's ProGrid is on a similar trend level to an Asics Gel or New Balance 530s. Saucony ProGrid Trainers are known for their loud colours and style, but it's the finer details that really let these shoes shine. ProGrids' builds are designed to be technically firm, meaning that the won't lose their shape and keep their fit even while adjusting to the shape of each individual's foot, while remaining light as a result of the open mesh material that is used to construct the frame. This means that the shoes are firm on the outside and soft on the inside, keeping their shape and structure without justifying a reduction in fit. The texture of these frames are constructed with suede and leather, fabrics that aren't cheap to produce or buy but provide greater stability to the formation of the shoe and ensure that the money paid is well-justified.
Underneath, the shoe is fitted with Ground Reaction Inertia Device (GRID) technology. GRID tech is a cushioning system implemented within the shoe's numerous frames by intertwining with one another. What this does is stabilise the rear of the shoe to make sure that wear and tear do not occur so easily, ensure the shoe never loses its shape and helps solidify the suede and leather to hold its structural integrity. This means that your Saucony ProGrid trainers keep their form significantly longer than other trainers.
